BVP celebrates Teej Festival

JAMMU, July 26: Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP), Trikuta Nagar Branch, celebrated the vibrant and traditional Hariyali Teej Festival with great enthusiasm and cultural splendour.

Vice President of BJP J&K, Rekha Mahajan, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Anita Mahajan, the Prant President, also attended as a distinguished guest. The event was organized under the leadership of Vanita Kohli (President), Kalpana Chopra (Secretary), and Ritu Gupta (Treasurer), showcasing the active participation of the BVP Ladies Club members.

The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the recitation of “Vande Mataram,” setting a culturally rich and spiritually uplifting tone for the evening. This traditional practice not only signifies respect for the occasion but also embodies the collective spirit of the community.

In her address, Rekha Mahajan highlighted the significance of Hariyali Teej, stating, “It is one of the most cherished festivals in India that signifies the beauty of nature, devotion, and the sacred bond of marriage.” She emphasized the importance of participating in such cultural festivals, noting, “These celebrations serve as a bridge connecting us to our roots.” Her words resonated deeply with attendees, reinforcing the value of cultural heritage.

The Teej Mahotsav 2025 featured a variety of engaging and entertaining activities, including traditional dance performances, folk music, and games. A special highlight of the event was the Teej Queen Competition, where women showcased their talent, elegance, and festive spirit. This competition not only celebrated individual achievements but also fostered a sense of community among participants.

Suresh Balli was crowned the evergreen Teej Queen (above 50), while Vanshika Gupta earned the title of Teej Queen (under 50). This dual recognition beautifully represented both maturity and youthful energy, highlighting the diversity of the participants and their celebrations. Such inclusivity in recognizing talents across age groups enriches the festival’s spirit.

The function concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, echoing the collective sentiment of reviving and rejoicing in India’s rich cultural heritage. The evening was filled with joy, laughter, and a shared commitment to preserving and celebrating the traditions that bind communities together.
