Loblaw and Parmigiano Reggiano Join Forces for Cheesy Guinness World Record Attempt
In a delightful blend of culinary tradition and community spirit, Loblaw Companies Ltd. and Parmigiano Reggiano are gearing up for a record-breaking event that promises to be both fun and flavorful. This Saturday, June 14, at 9 a.m. Pacific Time, grocery stores across Canada will participate in an ambitious attempt to crack over 1,800 wheels of the beloved Italian cheese simultaneously.
Dubbed the "Most Parmigiano Reggiano Wheels Cracked Simultaneously," this event will take place at more than 450 locations nationwide, including four venues in Surrey, British Columbia. The South Surrey Real Canadian Superstore at 2332 160 St. will be one of the key sites, alongside three other Surrey locations: the RCSS at 7550 King George Blvd., the RCSS at 14650 104 Ave., and Nielsen’s Your Independent Grocer at 18765 Fraser Highway.
The excitement extends beyond Surrey, with participation from stores in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Delta, Mission, and Langley, as well as various locations throughout Vancouver, Coquitlam, Burnaby, Richmond, and even Vancouver Island. Cheese enthusiasts from Penticton to Prince George are expected to join in the fun.
This event aims to surpass the companies’ previous record set in 2014, when over 1,000 wheels were cracked open in unison. Attendees can look forward to sampling freshly cut Parmigiano Reggiano and learning about the rich cultural heritage behind Italy’s "King of Cheese."
With hundreds of cheese lovers, chefs, and curious consumers expected to attend, this cheesy challenge is set to be a memorable celebration of community and culinary artistry. Whether you’re a die-hard cheese fan or just looking for a fun outing, this event promises to be a gouda time for all!
