Hyundai Motor Group Partners with HTX to Revolutionize Singapore’s Public Safety Fleet
Gyeongju, South Korea – In a groundbreaking collaboration, Hyundai Motor Group has joined forces with Singapore’s Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) to transform the development and customization of the city-state’s public safety fleet. This partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit, aims to enhance agility and operational readiness in public safety operations.
The MoU was signed by Chan Tsan, Chief Executive of HTX, alongside key representatives from Hyundai, including Ilbum Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Policy Office, and Hyun Sung Park, CEO of Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS). The signing was witnessed by Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Sim Ann, and Sung Kim, President for Strategic Planning at Hyundai Motor Group.
A New Era of Public Safety Technology
At the heart of this collaboration is the introduction of the Kia PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) modular electric vehicle platform. The first public safety technology demonstration is set to launch by 2028, showcasing multi-purpose mobility solutions designed to boost the operational efficiency of Singapore’s fleet, which includes police cars and rapid response vehicles.
“Hyundai Motor Group has established a solid foundation for driving public mobility innovation in partnership with the Singaporean government, leveraging our proprietary technologies,” said Ilbum Kim. “Through real-world demonstrations of mobility solutions, we will continue to lead global innovation in future technologies such as robotics and hydrogen.”
Transformative Solutions for Enhanced Agility
HTX currently customizes a diverse range of vehicles for various operational needs under Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs, which includes the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force. The partnership with Hyundai aims to create a unified operational platform built on modular vehicle architecture, significantly enhancing operational readiness and adaptability while reducing the need for multiple specialized vehicles.
“This collaboration enables us to push the boundaries of future mobility technologies and bring cutting-edge innovations into real-world Home Team operations,” stated Chan Tsan.
Expanding Horizons: Robotics and Hydrogen Energy
Beyond mobility, the partnership will delve into joint research and development in robotics and hydrogen energy, further strengthening public safety systems in Singapore. Hyundai’s commitment to innovation is evident in its recent advancements, including the acquisition of Boston Dynamics and the launch of the world’s first mass-produced hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck, the XCIENT Fuel Cell.
A Vision for Sustainable Mobility
Hyundai Motor Group views Singapore as an ideal environment for testing transformative technologies, thanks to its open policies and talent-rich landscape. This collaboration aligns with Singapore’s broader electrification strategy as part of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, which envisions all vehicles running on cleaner energy by 2040.
As the partnership unfolds, Singapore is set to become a beacon of innovation in public safety and mobility, paving the way for a smarter, more efficient future.
