Celebrating 27 Years of Google: A Nostalgic Throwback and Festive Spirit at Bengaluru Campus

Google Celebrates 27 Years of Innovation with Nostalgic Doodle and Festivities

September 27, 2023 — Google marked its 27th birthday today with a nostalgic twist, unveiling its original 1998 logo in a charming doodle on its homepage. As the world reminisced about the tech giant’s humble beginnings, employees at Google’s Bengaluru office celebrated in style, embodying the spirit of innovation that has defined the company for nearly three decades.

Keerthana M, a project management apprentice at the Bengaluru campus, shared vibrant glimpses of the festivities on LinkedIn. “Yesterday, we celebrated another year of Google’s journey—officially marked on September 27th each year. This year, Google turned 27 years old—that’s over 236,000 hours (and counting!) of shaping the way the world searches, connects, and innovates,” she wrote, encapsulating the essence of the day.

The atmosphere at the Bengaluru office was electric, filled with what Keerthana described as “TGIT (Thank Google It’s Thursday) energy.” The café buzzed with excitement, offering delectable food and a celebratory cake that brought employees together. “It truly felt like being part of something much larger than yourself,” she added, highlighting the camaraderie among colleagues.

Why September 27?

While Google was officially incorporated on September 4, 1998, the choice of September 27 for its birthday stems from a significant milestone: the day the company indexed a record number of web pages. Originally launched as a website on September 15, 1997, by Stanford PhD students Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google has come a long way since its garage beginnings.

A Journey of Transformation

From its modest start, Google has redefined how the world interacts with the internet. The company’s 2004 IPO marked the beginning of its financial ascent, and the establishment of Alphabet Inc. in 2015 further solidified its dominance in the tech landscape. Today, Google boasts a market capitalization exceeding $3 trillion, evolving from a search engine into a comprehensive digital ecosystem.

At 27, Google is not just a tool for information; it has become an integral part of daily life for millions, transforming into a verb synonymous with searching the web. As the company celebrates its past, it continues to innovate, shaping the future of technology and connectivity.

As employees and users alike reflect on Google’s remarkable journey, one thing is clear: the tech giant’s impact on the world is far from over.
