Introducing the Audi Q5 e-Hybrid: A New Era of Luxury and Efficiency
Audi’s ever-popular Q5 range has just welcomed a compelling new addition: the Audi Q5 e-hybrid. This innovative plug-in hybrid model combines everyday practicality with forward-thinking technology and design, available in both SUV and Sportback forms. With its sleek aesthetics and advanced features, the Q5 e-hybrid is set to turn heads for all the right reasons.
Pricing and Availability
Arriving in the UK this month, the Audi Q5 e-hybrid marries refined power with remarkable electric range. Prices start from £56,740 for the SUV and £59,240 for the Sportback. This elegant all-rounder brings the best of both worlds—seamless hybrid performance and the luxury comfort Audi is renowned for.
Up to 62 Miles on Electric Power Alone
One of the standout features of the Q5 e-hybrid is its impressive electric-only driving range. Capable of covering up to 62 miles on electric power alone, this vehicle makes short commutes and local errands effortlessly emission-free. This remarkable range is made possible by a new-generation high-voltage battery that boasts a substantial 45% capacity boost over the previous model.
The battery, neatly integrated beneath the rear of the vehicle, features a total capacity of 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh). This allows for more confident electric motoring, and the Q5 can be fully charged in just 2.5 hours using a 3-phase 11kW AC charger. A handy charging cable is included as standard, and Audi’s extensive charging network provides access to public points across 28 European countries.
Dynamic Performance, True Comfort
Under the bonnet, the Q5 e-hybrid delivers an impressive 299PS (220kW) of system power, thanks to the pairing of a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine and a lively electric motor. This combination allows for a brisk 0–62 mph acceleration in just 6.2 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph. The quattro all-wheel drive system, paired with a seven-speed S tronic transmission, ensures a smooth, composed, and responsive driving experience.
Driving modes are tailored to meet various needs: in “EV” mode, drivers can enjoy whisper-quiet electric-only travel, while “hybrid” mode intelligently blends engine and electric power for optimum efficiency on longer journeys. Additionally, drivers can pre-set their desired battery charge level before setting off, ensuring they arrive at their destination with electric power still in reserve—ideal for low-emission zones or city driving.
Sleek, Practical, and Packed with Features
Visually, both the SUV and Sportback versions of the Q5 e-hybrid share the Q5’s confident, sculpted presence, enhanced with a more progressive silhouette and a strong stance. Standard features include LED headlights, LED rear lights, S sport suspension, and striking 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Q5 e-hybrid offers a premium experience. The spacious cabin features Audi’s latest MMI experience plus infotainment system, complete with a built-in Audi App Store, smartphone integration, and an Audi sound system. A cooled wireless charging tray sits in the center console, alongside two USB-C ports for front and rear passengers. For those with higher-powered devices, the optional Sound and Vision pack boosts charging to 60 watts in front and 100 watts in the rear—powerful enough for laptops on the go.
Rear-seat passengers are also treated to thoughtful comfort, with an adjustable rear bench seat that can be configured for legroom or boot space and even reclined. Boot capacity is generous, offering 438 liters in the SUV (433 liters in the Sportback), which expands to over 1,300 liters with the seats folded down.
Smarter Energy Use on the Move
Efficiency is where the Q5 e-hybrid truly shines. Enhanced energy recuperation allows the vehicle to actively reclaim power during braking and deceleration, recovering up to 88kW of energy. This dramatically improves real-world battery range.
The system utilizes route and traffic data to optimize energy management, adapting automatically to hills, speed limits, and traffic conditions. Drivers can also fine-tune energy regeneration on the go using steering wheel paddles, adjusting the deceleration level to suit road conditions—particularly useful for navigating twisty lanes or urban traffic flow.
A New Era for the Q5
With both SUV and Sportback versions now available as plug-in hybrids, Audi continues to evolve its best-selling mid-size SUV into a truly future-facing option. These new models combine premium finishes, long-range electric driving, and intelligent energy use in one beautifully engineered package.
Produced at Audi’s plant in San José Chiapa, Mexico, the Q5 e-hybrid range marks a significant step forward for the brand’s electrified line-up. UK orders have now opened, with first customer deliveries scheduled for the autumn.
