Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City Enhances Diagnostic Medical Imaging Training

Tuesday, October 7, 2025
Oklahoma City, OK – In a significant boost to healthcare education, Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) has upgraded its Diagnostic Medical Imaging department with state-of-the-art imaging equipment. This enhancement underscores the university’s commitment to preparing students for the evolving demands of the healthcare workforce.

The newly integrated equipment in the radiologic technology lab allows students to gain invaluable hands-on experience with advanced digital radiography systems and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS). These technologies are essential in modern hospitals and clinics, ensuring that students are well-prepared for real-world applications in their future careers.

The Radiologic Technology program at OSU-OKC, which culminates in an Associate of Applied Science degree, boasts impressive outcomes in certification and job placement. Students engage in a rigorous curriculum that combines classroom learning with clinical rotations at local healthcare facilities, providing a comprehensive educational experience.

In addition to radiologic technology, OSU-OKC offers a nationally recognized cardiovascular sonography program, ranked among the top 20 associate-level sonography programs in the country by CollegeChoice America. This program trains students to operate high-resolution ultrasound systems critical for assessing heart and vascular conditions.

Karen Bubb, department head of Diagnostic Imaging at OSU-OKC, expressed pride in the new equipment, stating, “This advancement in our Radiologic Technology lab represents a meaningful step in preparing students for today’s healthcare environment. By training on industry-relevant systems, our students develop the practical skills needed to excel from day one.”

Both programs are integral to OSU-OKC’s School of Health Sciences and align with the university’s workforce development initiative, which emphasizes career-focused education and partnerships with industry. This initiative equips students with practical skills that directly translate to employment in high-demand fields.

“This enhancement reflects our continued commitment to workforce readiness,” Bubb added. “Whether our students choose radiologic technology or cardiovascular sonography, they graduate with the technical expertise and clinical experience essential for success in the rapidly evolving field of diagnostic medical imaging.”

With the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting a 10% growth in employment for diagnostic medical sonographers and cardiovascular technologists through 2031, OSU-OKC is strategically positioned to meet the increasing healthcare needs of the state.
