Remembering Paul Schreiber: A Pioneer in Synthesizer Technology
The modular synthesizer community is mourning the loss of a legend as Paul Schreiber, founder of Synthesis Technology, has passed away at the age of 69. Known for his innovative analog and digital developments in the world of synthesizers, Paul leaves behind a legacy that has inspired many in the industry.
Paul founded Synthesis Technology in 1998, introducing the MOTM modular Synthesizer format that allowed musicians and electronics enthusiasts to build their own DIY Synthesizer one module at a time. His contributions to the modular synth concept were groundbreaking, with updated components and engineering techniques that set his modules apart.
In 2010, Synthesis Technology ventured into Eurorack modules, releasing the E340 Cloud Generator, which was just the beginning of many impressive modules with innovative concepts. Paul’s vision for synthesizers and his dedication to creating modules that looked and sounded exceptional made him a true legend in the modular synth world.
Even after retiring in August 2023, Paul remained active in the synth community, working on a new module that was recently released. The Synthesis Technology E430 is a faithful re-creation of the classic SEM 12dB/oct state-variable filter with additional features, showcasing Paul’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of synth technology.
While many may not have had the opportunity to meet Paul Schreiber in person, his impact on the modular synth community is undeniable. His passion for synthesizers and his unwavering dedication to creating exceptional modules will be remembered by many. Rest in peace, Paul Schreiber.
