The largest custom ARCEMY system by AML3D now available online at Austal USA

Date:

Austal USA, a leading shipbuilder and defense contractor, is at the forefront of additive manufacturing technology in the United States. Operating the US Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) in Danville, Virginia, Austal USA is paving the way for the future of shipbuilding and repair. The AM CoE houses a state-of-the-art ARCEMY 6700 system, which was delivered in early 2024. This system, the second of its kind in the facility, boasts an impressive build volume of approximately 35 cubic meters, making it the largest of its kind in operation.

The AM CoE plays a crucial role in meeting the US Navy’s current shipbuilding requirements, as well as supporting ship repair and the construction of the next generation of ships and boats. By investing in additive manufacturing technology, Austal USA is not only enhancing its own capabilities but also contributing to the overall improvement of the defense supply chain. This investment is part of a broader effort to expand post-delivery support and sustainment offerings for the Navy and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).

AML3D, a key partner of Austal USA, has been instrumental in the success of the AM CoE. The delivery of the custom ARCEMY system to Austal USA marks a significant milestone in AML3D’s efforts to expand its presence in the US defense market. With a proven track record in deploying additive manufacturing technology to support the US Navy submarine industrial base, AML3D is now poised to make a significant impact on the wider US Marine Industrial Base, covering shipbuilding and munitions.

The recent expansion of AML3D’s operations in the US, including the establishment of a new facility in Ohio, underscores the company’s commitment to the American defense market. With the US Government’s initiatives to revitalize shipbuilding and manufacturing, there is a growing demand for additive manufacturing technology to address supply chain constraints and improve efficiency and quality. This presents a significant opportunity for AML3D to secure new defense contracts and expand its reach into sectors such as utilities, aerospace, and oil and gas.

In conclusion, Austal USA’s leadership in additive manufacturing technology, supported by partners like AML3D, is driving innovation and efficiency in the US defense industry. By investing in cutting-edge technology and expanding their presence in key markets, these companies are not only meeting the current needs of the US Navy but also positioning themselves for future success in a rapidly evolving industry.
