Alpla, a company specializing in the production and recycling of plastic packaging, has recently made significant changes to its leadership team in two key regions, Western Europe and Asia-Pacific (APAC).
Roland Wallner, who currently serves as the managing director of the APAC region, will be transitioning to the role of managing director of Western Europe on 1 April. Wallner brings with him over 27 years of international management experience in various regions, including Europe, the US, Middle East, and Asia. During his tenure in Asia, Wallner played a pivotal role in driving substantial growth for the company, expanding its presence in multiple Asian countries, and overseeing major greenfield projects. He also established key initiatives such as the new technical center for product development in Shanghai and introduced innovative services like the StudioA design center and mold manufacturing.
Under Wallner’s leadership, the former North East Asia and South East Asia regions were successfully merged into the new APAC region, based in Singapore. His strategic vision and commitment to excellence have been instrumental in positioning Alpla as a leader in the region.
In his new role as managing director of Western Europe, Wallner is expected to leverage his extensive experience and leadership skills to further strengthen Alpla’s position in the region and drive future growth opportunities. Philipp Lehner, Alpla’s CEO, expressed confidence in Wallner’s ability to deliver results and enhance the company’s presence in Western Europe.
Meanwhile, Ronald Tichelaar, who currently serves as the general manager in China, will succeed Wallner as the managing director of the APAC region. Tichelaar brings 14 years of international management experience at Alpla, including roles in North Asia and Spain. As the general manager of China, he led multiple plants and key initiatives in Shanghai, demonstrating a strong focus on operational excellence and quality.
In his new role, Tichelaar will be responsible for overseeing the Asia-Pacific region, which comprises 12 locations with 2,650 employees across four countries. Alpla recently opened its second plant and headquarters for Thailand in Chachoengsao, further expanding its presence in the region.
Lehner praised Tichelaar’s commitment to continuous improvement, modernization, and growth, highlighting his deep understanding of Alpla’s business areas. With Tichelaar’s appointment, Alpla aims to ensure a seamless transition and continuity in its operations in the APAC region.
Overall, Alpla’s restructuring of its leadership team in Western Europe and Asia-Pacific reflects the company’s commitment to driving innovation, growth, and sustainability in the plastic packaging industry. With experienced leaders like Wallner and Tichelaar at the helm, Alpla is well-positioned to navigate the evolving market landscape and capitalize on new opportunities for success.
