Indian-origin co-founder who sold his startup for nearly $1 billion says he has no income, is looking for internships

Vinay Hiremath, the co-founder of Loom, made headlines when he sold his startup to Atlassian for almost $1 billion in 2023. With a hefty payout of $50 to 70 million, the 33-year-old entrepreneur now finds himself in a unique position – he has no income and is on the lookout for internships.

In a recent appearance on the Moneywise podcast, Hiremath shared his journey from being a “broke stoner” to a millionaire and how he is now navigating his newfound wealth. Despite walking away from a $60 million retention bonus, Hiremath has no regrets about his decision.

Refusing to disclose the exact amount he made from the sale of his startup, Hiremath hinted that it falls within the range of $30 to $100 million, leading podcast host Sam Parr to estimate his exit earnings at $50 to 70 million. Hiremath mentioned that he now has enough money for his future children, whenever he decides to have them.

What sets Hiremath apart is his unconventional approach to his wealth. In a blog post earlier this year, he admitted to having more money than he knows what to do with, stating that he never has to work again. Instead, he spends his time studying physics for hours daily and interacting with younger individuals in Discord groups.

Currently, Hiremath is seeking internships in the field of mechanical engineering, with a particular interest in robotics. He expressed his desire to intern as a mechanical engineer and later as an electrical engineer, showcasing his curiosity and willingness to explore new opportunities.

Despite his financial success, Hiremath’s story serves as a reminder that wealth does not always dictate one’s path in life. As he embarks on this new chapter of seeking internships and expanding his knowledge, Hiremath continues to defy expectations and inspire others with his unconventional journey.
