Thai Restaurant Slammed for Bizarre Discount System Based on Customer’s Size: Is it Fatphobic Nonsense?

The Thai restaurant, Chiang Mai Breakfast World, has found itself in hot water after a video showcasing its unique discount system went viral. The eatery offers discounts based on how “skinny” a customer is, determined by whether they can squeeze through a set of metal bars of varying widths.

The discount challenge, which gained attention when travel influencers Amina and Alex shared a video of their visit on Instagram, has sparked a heated debate online. While some found the concept humorous, others criticized the restaurant for promoting body shaming and making fun of plus-sized individuals under the guise of fun.

Social media reactions have been mixed, with some calling the discount system “fatphobic nonsense” and questioning the ethics behind such marketing tactics. Despite some finding it light-hearted, many have expressed concerns about the potential embarrassment and discrimination that could result from such a promotion.

As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Chiang Mai Breakfast World will address the backlash and whether they will reconsider their discount system in light of the criticism.
