Indian Navy’s Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR Engages in Professional and Cultural Activities in Mozambique

Indian Navy’s Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR recently conducted a successful visit to Mozambique, engaging in a variety of professional and cultural activities. The Navy shared details of the key activities carried out in Nacala, including joint training sessions with the Mozambique Armed Forces on various operations such as Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS), firefighting, damage control, and diving.

In addition to the training sessions, the Navy also set up medical camps for local residents and organized a community outreach program at a local orphanage in Nacala. The visit aimed at strengthening regional partnerships for maritime security, fostering cultural bonds, and showcasing social responsibility to the community.

The IOS SAGAR, part of the Indian government’s regional initiative SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), departed from Nacala after a three-day visit. The ship, carrying 44 Navy personnel from nine friendly countries, also hosted Defence Advisor Col. Puneet Attri for an afternoon with officers from these countries.

The mission of SAGAR is to enhance maritime cooperation between India and various African nations, further solidifying ties and promoting growth in the region. The Indian Navy’s engagement in Mozambique highlights their commitment to regional security and cooperation, as well as their dedication to community outreach and social responsibility.
