Turkish First Lady to Showcase Anatolian Culture During U.S. Visit

Date:

First Lady Emine Erdoğan recently embarked on a significant journey to New York alongside President Erdoğan to participate in the U.N. General Assembly. This annual gathering is not just a diplomatic event; it serves as a platform for global leaders to discuss pressing issues and collaborate on solutions. Emine Erdoğan’s presence is particularly noteworthy as she will engage with fellow first ladies and promote her initiatives aimed at enhancing Türkiye’s global image, including her pioneering “zero waste” project.

During her time in New York, Emine Erdoğan will engage in a series of high-profile discussions and events. One of the highlights includes a meeting with Professor Jeffrey Sachs, the president of the U.N. Sustainable Development Solutions Network. This meeting is crucial as it aligns with her commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. Additionally, she will participate in a gathering organized by Türkiye’s Ministry of Family and Social Services, which aims to strengthen family bonds and build resilient societies. This meeting will bring together family ministers and senior officials from various countries, fostering international dialogue on demographic challenges and family welfare.

In a celebration of Turkish culture, Emine Erdoğan will host an exhibition titled “In Anatolia: Treasures Behind Doors” at the Turkish House in New York. This exhibition is designed to showcase the rich heritage of Anatolia through three thematic chapters: the prosperity of the soil, cuisine, and handicrafts. Attendees, including fellow first ladies, will have the opportunity to experience traditional Anatolian dishes, which reflect centuries of culinary tradition. The exhibition not only highlights the artistic craftsmanship of Turkish artisans but also emphasizes the importance of using natural materials and traditional food preservation techniques, which are integral to the zero waste philosophy.

Zero Waste Initiative

Emine Erdoğan’s commitment to environmental sustainability is exemplified through her “zero waste” initiative, which she launched in 2017. This project has been instrumental in promoting recycling and waste reduction across Türkiye. At the U.N. General Assembly, she will attend the “Zero Waste Blue” exhibition, co-organized by the Ministry of Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change, and the Zero Waste Foundation. This exhibition aims to raise awareness about the protection of water bodies from pollution, showcasing Türkiye’s efforts and achievements under the “zero waste blue” brand. The initiative not only addresses waste management but also emphasizes the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations.

In addition to her environmental advocacy, Emine Erdoğan will participate in an event focused on children’s health, organized by Uzbekistan, the World Health Organization, and St. Jude Research Hospital. This event aims to raise awareness about children’s cancer, a critical health issue that requires global attention and collaboration. By engaging in such initiatives, she highlights Türkiye’s commitment to global health and the well-being of future generations.
