Reginald, a 7-year-old Great Dane from Idaho, towers at an impressive 3 feet 3 inches, while Pearl, a 4-year-old Chihuahua from Florida, stands at just 3.59 inches tall. Both dogs hold Guinness World Records for their respective heights, making their meeting a historic event.
The two-day rendezvous was organized by Guinness and took place at Reginald’s home in Idaho Falls. Despite initial concerns from Pearl’s owner, Vanesa Semler, about the size disparity, the two dogs hit it off famously. “For me, it was a huge, pleasant surprise from day one because Reggie is like Pearl, just in a bigger size,” Semler remarked. “He is so gentle, so friendly.”
While Pearl is known for her diva-like tendencies—selecting her outfits by placing her paw on them—Reginald, affectionately known as Reggie, has his own moments of high maintenance. “He’s pretty cheeky and definitely tells you when he wants something,” said his owner, Sam Johnson Reiss.
The playdate was filled with tail wagging, sniffing, and playful antics, as the two dogs navigated their time together. Reggie, although cautious around the tiny Pearl, was more intrigued by the accompanying Guinness film crew. “He was very aware that she was there,” Reiss noted, highlighting Reggie’s gentle nature.
Despite a few moments of jealousy over toys and beds, the duo found common ground, roaming the expansive Idaho farm together. “I think she found a good friend,” Semler said, reflecting on the bond formed during their time together.
